What's Your Song? Thursday Link Up!

Today's song selection might surprise some people. Why? Because I'm 23. You'd expect me to be one of those people who listened to and fantasized over boy bands. Ok, when I was a pre-teen, I did. But I grew up listening to classic rock with my dad, and disco with my mom. I have a very eclectic taste in music. I love rock of all sorts, but can't stand that emo/punk crap. I'd choose Polish reggae over pop any day. I like some rap, but most of it just seems dumb to me. I also find I am more focused on writing code (as I am a software developer) if I'm listening to Trip-Hop. Techno gets annoying after the first 1-2 minutes of each song. I could keep going, as I have opinions about every type of music. My whole point is that I'm not a mainstream/normal type of chick.

Now back to the song... To preface this - the first time I heard this song was at the end of one of my favorite movies, Space Cowboys. If you haven't seen it, you should! Tuesday evening we had horrible storms rip through our area. Our tornado sirens were going off, the sky was black, and I was huddled up with my birds and hamsters in the bathroom, without A/C because our apt complex just "hadn't gotten around to it yet." In Texas, life without A/C sucks. Anyways, you might have noticed I didn't mention my hubby. Well, that's because he decided to go outside and hang out with all the crazy people taking pictures of the storm instead of getting to a safe place. As a pessimist by nature, I was freaking out the whole time he was gone. To calm myself down, I started singing the song we played as our recessional song after the wedding ceremony. We got married under the stars at the UT-Arlington Planetarium. I'm happy to say that he came back inside with me, and there was no damage done in the storm. The song's been stuck in my head ever since.

Wtihout further ado, here's Ol' Blue Eyes with Fly Me to the Moon

  2. Frank Sinatra! Always a great choice! We've had terrible storms in Missouri since Sunday night, and I'm hoping they have officially died down for the weekend. I know what you mean about being a pessimist! :)

  3. I love Michael Buble, and I agree, he could be the Frank of our time. It's just too bad that this type of music has fallen by the wayside, and even gets laughed at by the younger generations... I often feel I was born a decade or two too late.

Exercise can be fun!

The weekend is always the best time for me to get my exercise, simply because I don't have to work. Although I love my Wii workout, that's really more for the middle of the week. I've started planning my weekends to include lots of physical activities, without the dread of actual exercise. Weight Watchers stresses that you don't use the term 'exercise', but rather 'activity'. I would agree. 'Exercise' can strike fear into the hearts of even the healthy, whereas 'activity' implies something fun. So here's what I have planned for the next few weekends as 'activity': Friday, Mar 25: Weeding My Garden Oh my goodness, the weeds have just taken over! I have 3 birdfeeders very close to the garden, so seeds get thrown in it all the time. The seeds have started growing plants, so I will be digging around tonight, pulling all of them out. Saturday, Mar 26: Fort Worth Zoo specifically for the new Museum of Living Art. Last time we ...

Vegetarian life update

I've made it through the first 3 days as a vegetarian, and I haven't missed meat at all. I know that the first few weeks are the hardest, and I'm pleased so far. I've been using quinoa and hemp seeds for proteins, and will be using nuts and beans as well. There are thousands of recipes online, and I've already tried some. I'm having to teach Hubs that it's okay for him to eat meat, and that I have no problem cooking it for him. I just don't add meat to my meal. It's surprisingly easy. We went to the grocery store on Saturday, and I walked out with no animal proteins or dairy in my bags. It was easy to ignore the meat. My PCOS group is doing an event called "Creating Goals with Soul", using Danielle LaPorte's Workbook O' Fire. Some of the girls are so excited to participate - and we could all use a little help sticking to our goals. My current health goals: - Continue my vegetarian lifestyle change - Eliminate my coffee consumpt...
