Taking my frustration out on a word...

MindBodyGreen was thinking about me today... Well maybe not me, but people like me. I get their daily email blasts. If you are interested in changing your life, you've got to check this site, MindBodyGreen.com, out. I love it.

The first post was about a word we need to eliminate from our thoughts. (Read it here: Eliminate this word) Especially if we want to learn to love ourselves more. What's the word? Take a guess...

Hate?
.
.
.

Fear?
.
.
.

Fine?

Nope. SHOULD. *bomb drops* Bam!

Duh! This is genius. And I've only been thinking about it for 5 minutes. I use 'should' ALL the time. If I'm sitting on the couch, watching my 3rd or 4th hour of tv and it's getting close to bedtime, I say: I 'should' have worked out.

Found on turningleafcoaching.com

  • I should cook more.
  • I should work out.
  • I should have mailed out Christmas cards.
  • I should save that money instead of buying another penguin. (Yes, we love penguins and it's a symbol of our love, but that's not the point.)
  • I should give Spike a bath.
  • I should get up 10 minutes earlier so I can make my breakfast smoothie.
  • I should have worked an extra hour at work.
  • I should have eaten an apple instead of that chocolate. (But it was organic dark chocolate, so that has to help some, right?)

See? I use it a lot. Way more than any self-respecting person should. Have you heard of the rubber band method of change? You wear a rubber band on your wrist. Whenever you do something you aren't supposed to, you snap the rubber band. Ow. But it has proven to be a quite effective method of making you stop doing whatever it is that you want to stop. Because the damn rubber band hurts and you want it to be over with. I'm going to do it.

A rubber band against my self-hatred and that stupid word, 'should'. And I'm replacing the word 'should' with 'will'.

Spend a few moments Happifying your life!

Several months ago I was given the opportunity to beta test a new program called Happify . It's designed to help you become happier with your life, and has plenty of studies to back up their science. I've been using it, although not as faithfully as I should. But I really have enjoyed testing out a lot of the different tracks to choose from. This week,   Happify  ent out of beta testing and is now open to the public. There are a lot of free tracks you can choose from, as well as some others you can get by upgrading to a paid membership. I recommend   Happify  o everyone I know that needs a little pick me up from day to day. It has been helping me find my way towards satisfaction with myself and my life the way it is. It has also helped me to expand my horizons and learn how to be even happier. It's a great program. Currently I'm working on the paid track 'Get Motivated to Get Fit'. Right now it's exactly what I need - a way to focus on my health without ...

Cortisol and Leptin...

Photo credit I feel so run down. I felt like this most of last week, and ended up taking 3 days off work due to it. This weekend was better - We went to Houston. We spent several hours enjoying the Downtown Aquarium on Saturday, and I enjoyed my PCOS symposium on Sunday. But as soon as I got in the car to head home, this feeling came back. It was so bad that I tossed my cookies less than an hour after we got on the road. This was definitely not from being car sick. I don't get car sick. I was tired all evening, had stupid issues with my homework, and finally went to be at 2-2:30. I realize that was late, and it could explain why I'm tired, but it doesn't explain the run-down, crappy feeling. I got plenty of sleep last week and still felt this way. I think it could be a cortisol issue. I have high cortisol levels. I know I haven't checked with a doctor, but from the information I received at the PCOS symposium, as well as years of research, it fits. I did some more re...

Wii Workout :)

I ordered some workout goodies for my Wii, and they came in yesterday! I splurged and bought 2lb dumbbell attachments for my wiimote and a silicone cover for the balance board. The cover has little nubs in the shape of a foot. It makes it much easier for me to stay in the same position for the whole workout, and they massage my feet, too! The dumbbells, although only 2 lbs each, sure did increase the intensity of my workout. Of course, I'm sure you are wondering what my workout routine is. My custom routine mixes yoga and strength training. I use the dumbbells when I do the strength training and some of the balance games. 1. Yoga - Warrior: I love this pose, because it really stretches and tones my thighs. 2. Strength Training(ST) - Torso Twists: These stretch your ab muscles, and it isn't crunches! 3. Yoga - Sun Salutation: This pose has helped me touch my toes again! 4. ST - Triceps Extension: This is great for my upper arms, especially with the new weights. 5. Yoga...
