I was in for a surprise when I got my food allergy test results this past Wednesday. For the few days prior, my thoughts were wrought with fear that I may be allergic to garlic or nuts. I even started designing my garlic and nut super-villain tattoos. Thankfully those weren't on my list.
The shock came with the 29 other items on my list!
Moderate allergies
Baker’s and brewer's yeast
Pineapple
Vanilla
White mushroom
Sensitivities
I was upset to see so many yummy foods on the list, including my go-to meat, turkey, and some of my usual spices. I was glad to see celery and onions, though. I’ve detested them for years and I always get laughed at for hating onions. Now I have a legitimate reason for hating them! I can live with this list. Well, I don't really have a choice, but I can look at it positively. I have created a list of fruits, veggies and herbs that I can use. I am building a large collection of recipes that do not use any of the items on my list. They are going into an organizational recipe/meal planner binder I'm working on (and I will post more details about it later).
The nutritionist recommended that I do a candida cleanse due to my allergies to yeasts. I started the day after I got my results. I have temporarily eliminated all sugar, fungi and fermented items from my diet. It has been an interesting few days, but I think things are going pretty well. Menu planning is definitely going to be key in the success of this endeavor.
While searching FoodGawker for new recipes that fit my dietary restrictions, I suddenly realized that my turkey allergy extends to more than just Thanksgiving and lunch meat. I could give those up. But I have to give up turkey bacon, too :( Since I detest pork bacon, I guess I'm just SOL. My secret love affair with bacon has come to a tragic end.
I started the cleanse at 227.4 pounds, and 3 days in I was already down to 225. From what I have read, allergy symptoms, especially from candida, can get worse the first couple of weeks into a cleanse, so I’m preparing for the worst and trying to get some blogs written before my hands get worse. And I’m doing a lot of recipe searching!

Wow, that is quite a large list. Sorry to hear/see so many yummy things are on it! :( At least you're getting into meal planning...hopefully that will turn out great for you! Good luck!

ReplyDeleteAce - Back in October, my fingers swelled up to the point that I could no longer wear my wedding band or type for long periods of time. After every OTC medication to relieve swelling, ice packs and hot compresses failed to fix the issue, I had to quit working. The swelling and joint pain now encompasses both hands, wrists, elbows and knees. My family and I believe that it is rheumatoid arthritis. Since I have no health insurance, I spent a lot of time researching natural remedies for RA. The biggest thing I kept reading was to stay away from any food you had any allergies to. When I found out that I couldn't get a new patient appointment with a rheumatologist until April, I decided the food allergy test from a nutritionist was the way to go. I've already lost 4 pounds, which I am super excited about. I'm giving it time to see a reduction in the swelling, though. The nutritionist is hopeful that we'll see some sort of improvement within 30-45 days.

Good luck and I love reading your blog. I"m still deciding if I should do natural or not to fight PCOS. I am also Insulin Resistant and just started Metformin.

I doubt that it will eliminate the RA, but I am hopeful that it will ease the symptoms enough that I can start working and living life again.
